Introduction

Fort McKay Environment LP delivers a wide variety of environmental services that include, but is not limited to:

  • reclamation
  • tree planting
  • erosion control through soil bioengineering
  • ranching
  • fencing
  • environmental monitoring
  • a host of other environmental services

Our reclamation services encompass the entire process of land           reclamation, from start to finish. In the winter we monitor the placement  of materials that cover reclaimed land; after the material is placed we disc, harrow and seed the land. We collect native seed that is grown into the trees and shrubs that we in turn plant on reclaimed land.

Our tree planting crew delivers top quality planting services. In 2004 we planted approximately 850,000 seedlings and in 2005 we planted just under 800,000 seedlings.

FMELP uses Soil-Bioengineering theories to create living erosion control structures. The basic premise of soil bioengineering is that certain species
will continue to grow and send out root and shoot material after they are cut down. The basic principle is that these structures will slow down runoff    water, trap sediment, and most importantly become a living  component that will add root matter and provide structure to the soil.

FMELP, working with Global Fabrication Inc, operate a fencing company. Since inception, we have expanded this department to fence anything our    clients ask for, and are combining fence construction with reclamation       activities such as grading, disking, harrowing and seeding. Our fencing company can custom fabricate to suit the clients needs. We also provide our clients with water monitoring services. The monitoring crew collects water samples and field data on a daily basis;  the samples are then processed by a laboratory and the information is used to ensure that our clients are meeting governmental regulations with regard to the areas water resources.

FMELP is responsible for the daily operations of a bison ranch that runs ~300 head of prize winning registered Wood Bison stock. These daily operations typically include feeding and watering the animals, repairing fences, sorting animals for sale or slaughter, calving and pasture management (including pasture rejuvenation).

In addition, we take on a variety of other environmental projects. We collect wildlife, vegetation and soils data that is used in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA’s); electro-fishing and fish relocation as well as providing assistance and local knowledge to archaeological surveys.
