Fort MacKay is located in Ward 2 within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Ward 2 includes Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay and Fort Fitzgerald.

Currently, the Councillors for this ward are Sonny Flett and David Allen Blair.
