Fort McKay Group of Companies (FMGOC) is a large oilfield construction and services company in Northern Alberta. Composed of two (2) businesses, it is fully owned by Fort McKay First Nation. The company started with a single janitorial contract. Since then, the FMGOC has aggressively grown to taken advantage of its close proximity to the oil sands development and become a strong partner  to industry. The FMGOC offers a variety of services ranging from earthworks and site services to reclamation support and logistics.

By providing high quality, cost competitive products and services in a safe environment, the FMGOC has grown into a financially stable, multi-million dollar operation.

Fort McKay Strategic Services LP

Fort McKay Strategic Services capacity is wide ranging, providing customers with quality solutions in the industry. The Construction & Earthworks division has a fleet of over 50 pieces of heavy equipment that are available and allows the company to provide mining services to oil sands projects in the region. The Site Services division offers direct access to an experienced labour force year round for both long and short term projects.

Fort McKay Logistics LP

Fort McKay Logistics is a First Nation owned Supply Chain Management Company that can provide an integrated supply chain service. We can pick up material and equipment from suppliers and manage it through the supply chain to the end user. Although primarily North American focused, we can manage material from anywhere in the world via our strong partnerships in transportation, rail, marine, and air.

Barrie Robb
CEO of Business Development

Barrie Robb is CEO of Business Development for Fort McKay First Nation. Prior to working with the Nation, Barrie was Vice President of Mackenzie Aboriginal Corporation, a privately held aboriginal-owned construction company. Previously he was also Vice President of Aboriginal Relations with EnCana Corporation and Regional Director General for the federal Department of Indian Affairs in Alberta.

Stuart Randell
Senior Manager, Business Development

Stuart Randell works with Fort McKay First Nation as part of their joint venture and new investment team. Prior to working for the Nation he worked at MNP where he is part of the Advisory practice. Earlier in his career Stuart also worked with a number of technology and new media start-up companies.

Dene Koe, which is the Dene term for “people’s house” offers reliable, high-value remote accommodation services to clients in the oil sands by bringing together Fort McKay First Nation, with Noralta Lodge. Together, we create a workforce lodging and services business dedicated to the permanence and resilience of Northern Alberta and its oil and gas industry.

By engaging industry and community stakeholders, Dene Koe provides oil sands clients with access to dependable, high quality workforce accommodation and logistics services, while investing in the future of the oil sands and the communities they serve.

Barge Landing Lodge

Established 2008

Barge Landing Lodge is a lodging facility that offers short and long-term accommodation for workers in the Alberta oil sands. The 1,500 room facility offers a diverse menu and a comfortable
home-away-from-home atmosphere. Barge Landing Lodge is one of two lodges of this kind in North America to be ISO 9001:2008 certified. This certification is an internationally recognized standard for quality management.

Designed like a hotel lodge, it features kitchen and dining areas, a recreation centre, three comfortable and well equipped dormitories, a lounge area, full fitness room, a business centre, and
conference room.

Poplar Point Camp Services

Poplar Point Camp Services is a joint venture company that combines the strengths and local expertise of Fort McKay First Nation, Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, and ESS Support Services. Poplar Point Catering is the market leader in providing remote camp services and related support assistance to clients in the Wood Buffalo Region. The company is currently providing camp services to CNRL and Syncrude.

Hammerstone Products

Established in 2009

Hammerstone’s Quarry covers an area of about 3,600 acres, with over 750 million tonnes of directly accessible limestone reserves. The Quarry is unique in that the outcrops are at or near surface across the Quarry area (elsewhere in the region, limestone is generally buried beneath the overlying oil sands).

FMFN is a minority owner in Hammerstone Corporation, which provides a reliable, year-round, local source of aggregate materials that help enhance the sustainability and environmental performance of the oil sands industry.

Fort McKay Savanna Oilfield Services

Established 2013

Fort McKay-Savanna provides drilling and well servicing across Alberta and is a full member of NAABA. The Nation’s co-owner in this company is Savanna Energy Services Corp. which is a leader in the international drilling industry.

› 2 x Single Service Rigs

The CT-1500 rigs are capable of drilling and coring with both pipe and coiled tubing. In addition to these rigs, Savanna has an inventory of 101 drilling rigs and 95 service rigs.

Fort McKay-Savanna’s rental division is operated by D&D Oilfield Rentals Corp., a 100% owned subsidiary of Savanna Energy. The company has an inventory of oilfield rental equipment that it rents to companies working in the region.
