Police
The Wood Buffalo Detachment of the RCMP (The Fort McMurray Rural Unit) provides policing services to the Fort McKay community. It is one of the largest geographical policing jurisdictions in Canada, providing federal, provincial and municipal law enforcement to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and Wood Buffalo National Park. The Detachment is composed of five main departments, as outlined below:
- Community Policing/ Victim Services
- Plain Clothes Section
- Serious Persons Crime Unit
- Domestic Violence Abuse Team
- Three Crime Reduction Teams
- Drug Unit
- Police Dog Services
- Forensic Identification Services
- Traffic Enforcement
The Fort McMurray Rural Unit of the Wood Buffalo Detachment of the RCMP also patrols the communities of Gregoire Lake Estates, Fort McMurray First Nations, Anzac, Janvier and Conklin as well. Members of the rural unit visit these communities daily, participating in a variety of activities including (but not limited to) Treaty Days, ATV Safety, Impaired Driving Presentations, Youth Floor Hockey Nights, Bicycle Helmet Safety, Carnival Days, Remembrance Day commemorations and school presentations including D.A.R.E. and community clean-up days.

Fire Services
The Fort McKay Fire Department is a non-profit organization consisting of over 16 members dedicated to ensuring the safety of the Fort McKay community and its surrounding areas. The Fire Department's members are all volunteers.
The Fire Department holds practices Tuesday evenings from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
