Fort MacKay is currently serviced by a water treatment plant and a sewage lagoon. The water treatment plant and the sewage lagoon support a capacity of 600 individuals.

The Municipal Development Plan indicates that the municipality will work with Indian Affairs and the Fort McKay First Nation to secure the provision of a new water treatment plant for the community.
